24 HOUR WAIKIKI
In the rhythm of daily life, the subtle shifts of light often go unnoticed. This project centers on time, place, identity, and memory, continuing two enduring concerns in my practice: tracking light and observing the transformation of a lived environment. Through a serial, systematic process, I photographed Waikīkī over two 24-hour period; February 8–9, 2020, and January 8–9, 2023.
These images function as a visual signature, examining the changing qualities of light and the tension between human perception and the camera’s mechanical record. Across the two intervals, the neighborhood itself evolves: construction cranes present in 2020 give way to a completed 28-story tower in 2023, marking a visible shift in the urban landscape.
Light moves continuously through the work, from the saturated tones of dawn to the quiet darkness of night. This progression reveals both the transformation of place and the passage of time, emphasizing the fleeting, often overlooked beauty embedded within the everyday.
