Uh Oh… People
This body of work centers on contemporary portraiture as a means of tracing influence—an exploration of the people who have shaped my life over time. The subjects are drawn from my immediate and extended world: family, friends, colleagues, and others whose presence has left a lasting imprint. Rather than presenting them as static likenesses, these portraits function as quiet records of relationship, memory, and exchange.
Photography is often understood as a tool for description, a way of fixing a person in a specific moment. In this project, I approach the medium more fluidly. Each image exists between documentation and interpretation, acknowledging that the way we remember people rarely aligns with a single, objective view. The portraits reflect both the physical presence of the subject and the more elusive qualities they carry—their influence, their history, and the role they occupy within my own narrative.
The process is intentionally direct and collaborative. I photograph my subjects in environments that feel familiar or significant to them, allowing gestures, expressions, and small details to emerge naturally. At the same time, the act of photographing becomes a form of recognition: a pause in which I consider how each individual has shaped my understanding of the world.
Taken together, the portraits form a constellation of interconnected lives. They are not only representations of others, but also an indirect self-portrait—mapping the relationships, experiences, and encounters that continue to define who I am.
