Melvyn "Mel" Haber was known as a great ambassador of the City of Palm Springs earning the moniker, "Mr. Palm Springs". In 1974 during a visit to the city, he purchased the historic Ingleside Inn and proceeded with complete renovations, including creating the restaurant Melvyn’s. In 2010 I reached out to Mel to see if he would allow me to take his portrait along with his staff. My sense was that his take on the classic formal restaurant/lounge was coming to an end and I wanted to capture the moment before it faded away. Mel passed away in 2016 one day after his 80th birthday. His craggy visage is as iconic as the surrounding San Jacinto Mountains that border Palm Springs.
